- Dr. James Cay, assisted by Dr. Allen Turner, triggers the Well at a distance of 500m using a lab-created Remnant in the form of a tungsten cube.[21]
- The Well releases an uncontrollable burst of gamma radiation with energy levels "orders of magnitude greater than any man-made source". Allen manages to save the surrounding area by reversing the radiation polarity, but he dies shortly afterward from radiation exposure.[22]
- Dr. Cay is severely injured from radiation exposure. ARDA falsely reports him dead.[23]
- Anyone awake within a 10-mile radius of the Well experiences 30 seconds of hallucinations. This event is later dubbed the Mass Hallucination.[22]
