Logbook Entry

JOURNAL FRAGMENT, Dr. Francis Cooke, June 1st, 1966.

I'm not sure I like my job so much these days.

The amount of explosions alone is difficult to count. I never thought I'd be working in a place where everything EXPLODES so much. But after what I suppose we're now calling each Growth Event (I shall not be using inverted commas), everything gets stranger. Stranger and more dangerous. I know we were told to expect some amount of hazard, but people are dying out here and the work ARDA has us doing is putting each person at ever greater risk.

The latest of these Anomalies, horrific things that I swear we 've lost all control of and are now completely overwhelmed by, is some sort of mutated, volatile rock that might as well be a bomb. Hence the explosions. Are they almost indistinguishable from any other boulders lying about until they CHASE YOU? Of course they are. Are ARDA management aware of this newest danger, this most recent peril, or even addressing any of our new concerns? Sometimes I wonder if ARDA are RESPONSIBLE for all this.

Synopsis

This anomaly appears as an Explosives Crate with glowing red cracks down its face and usually appears in groups. As its name suggests, it moves by slowly tumbling from side-to-side. It explodes when disturbed or on its own about a minute after its appearance.

Blacksmith anomalies may spawn a number of Ticking Tumblers within their vicinity when they strike the earth. Radiant Dredge anomalies may also spawn Ticking Tumblers in their paths.

Occasionally, interacting with a seemingly regular explosives crate will cause it to turn into a Ticking Tumbler in your hands; if it does this, simply give it a good, hard throw away from yourself and it will explode harmlessly upon contact with the ground. You can tell if it is going to do this if the hand icon appears next to the interact key rather than the magnifying glass icon, indicating that interacting with the object will cause it to be picked up rather than inspected.

Counter

Hitting Ticking Tumblers with your car should be avoided at all cost. Aside from avoiding these anomalies altogether, The Driver can trigger a group of them from a safe distance by throwing an item at them or by firing a flare gun/bioflare gun in their direction.

If contact cannot be avoided, activation of the LIM Shield ability before contact will reduce damage.

Junction Conditions

Ticking Tumblers cause increased damage to the Driver's car when a junction has the Concussive Blasts, Torn Apart, and/or Magnified Explosions condition in effect.

Contact with exploding Ticking Tumblers will sap the car's battery and gas tank when a junction has the Exhausting Explosions condition in effect.
