The addition of heavy lead layering reduces the damage and decay caused by overexcited radioactive particles. This won't make anyone impervious, but it will make them safer.

Use
Lead-Plated panels provide additional protection against high levels of radiation damage to the Car and is useful for the Adjacent Parts Buff. It can be used paired with the Ion Shield, Lead-Plated Doors and Lead-Plated Bumpers for Payload hunting and to minimise damage caused by Meteorite Squalls.
