Logbook Entry

PARTIAL MEMO, source unknown, circa 1967.

I don't like the word "trap" because it implies intent. And intent implies intelligence.

A substantial application of intelligence, in fact. Planning. For sure, we have multiple accounts now of what seems to be the spontaneous appearance of Anomalies apparently triggered by human behavior or investigation. But we must think about this as scientists. Something that happens as a response or reaction of some kind isn't necessarily goal-oriented behavior. It may be no more than the ripples created by a stone falling in a lake, albeit a lake that continues to baffle and bemuse.

We must spend a lot more time recording what the Zone does, what these Anomalies do, before we begin extrapolating. I don't believe that we're seeing intent or intelligence. I believe we are merely seeing response, unfolding processes no different to weather or complex chemical reactions. We just might happen to sometimes be the catalyst.

Synopsis

Looking much like any other abandoned car on the side of the road, Honeypots are Anomalies that, when approached, will eject multiple lit flares from itself, attracting other Anomalies (similarly to when an Anchor is pulled from an Anchor Plug). However, the Honeypot itself does not cause harm, and can freely be looted like any other vehicle resource. Its car parts can be harvested with the scrapper and the trunk can be opened with a Prybar for additional resources.

Honeypots can be identified with the Resource Radar via the Weird Anomaly icon that pops up when scanned. Unlike abandoned or wrecked cars, Honeypots have all of its doors and panels, making it a lucrative scrapping opportunity. Honeypot trunks contain more flares than average car trunks.

Counter

When approaching a Honeypot, be quick in scrapping its parts and looting its trunk. A hand or thermal vacuum is effective in picking up scrapped materials. Be aware of your surroundings and which Anomalies spawn around the Honeypot, and be ready to act accordingly.
