Access Checkpoint

Once upon a time, Zone travel was heavily monitored. As instances of instability and unpredictable weather increased, regular checkpoints were installed not only for security, but also to track movement to ensure employees were journeying safely through the region. They allowed ARDA to monitor each vehicle and send out search teams to find any that had not recently checked in. Unstable regions could be even closed off and safe routes opened up in response to the ever-changing hazards of the Zone. Trespassing may have been one kind of problem, but in an increasingly unpredictable corner of the world that was soon eclipsed by lost or missing colleagues and equipment.

These days, the few remaining Zone inhabitants use the still functioning, still reliable Access Markers to determine which roads are stable enough to travel on.
