TRANSMISSION FRAGMENT, origin unknown, date unknown.
Hey Roger, this is Niraj.
I wanted to summarize everything we went over yesterday evening, so here's the key points taken from my notes. The standout is a ninety-five percent drop in animal life. That's the disappearance of almost all mammals, a huge drop in the population of fish and something around a three quarters drop in the population of insects.
Our exception here is birds. We're still seeing bird populations of about fifty or sixty percent, though it's not clear at this point what the birds might be eating, since insect numbers are so low. We discussed signs of birds, as well as actual bird numbers, and the ongoing presence of birdsong even in areas where birds seem absent or in sharp decline. We put a pin in that to follow up on it later.
It's a lot of changes and its consistent with the downward trend we've been seeing. The bird thing remains strange, though. We talked about making recordings of birdsong and comparing them, to look for any changes. I guess that's what we start on this week.
